About the Event

Listen to Mozart's Mass in C minor 'Waisenhaus' and Regina Coeli in St. Stephen's Cathedral.

The Mass in C minor 'Waisenhaus' got its name because Mozart composed it for the consecration of the Vienna Orphanage Church. Mozart “conducted this solemn music in the presence of the imperial court as a twelve‐year‐old boy.” The Orphanage Mass captivates listeners with its boldness, cheerfulness, and lively contrasts, which take on operatic traits in the young Mozart's work. You will also hear the Marian antiphon “Regina Coeli” by the 21‐year‐old Mozart.

Under the direction of János Czifra, the masterpieces will be intensively rehearsed by choir singers from around the world in several workshops. The grand finale will be a performance with renowned soloists and the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra in St. Stephen's Cathedral.
