Seville Opera House: Blood Wedding
Seville, Teatro de la Maestranza — Sala Principal
About the Event
Experience Federico García Lorca's gripping drama, Blood Wedding (Bodas de sangre), brought to life at the prestigious Teatro de la Maestranza.
Adapting a classic text into an opera is a challenge—and sometimes a recipe for failure—for any composer. Taking on *Blood Wedding* forced Manuel Busto to delve deeply into Federico García Lorca’s iconic work and, at the same time, into the poetic universe it evokes. Having honed his craft in a wide variety of artistic fields, Busto has dared to bring the world of opera closer to the roots from which the original work springs: Andalusian popular culture and what is perhaps its highest expression, flamenco.
A Teatro de la Maestranza production in collaboration with the Teatro Real in Madrid, *Bodas de sangre* ushers in a new era and charts new paths for opera, incorporating the full orchestra and operatic voices alongside flamenco singing, guitar playing, and dance—never as mere embellishments, but as genuine forms of expression that add a new dimension to Lorca’s drama. With Lucas Macías conducting and Bárbara Lluch directing, this world premiere features a cast led by young talents, including María Terremoto in the role of the Mother. The depth of flamenco.
