Classic in the Crypt: Four Hands, One Piano
Vienna, Peterskirche — Krypta
About the Event
A musical journey from a quiet dialogue to a grand sonic experience:
Inspired by Eastern tales, Robert Schumann indulges in his “Pictures from the East.” Cécile Chaminade, one of the most successful female composers of her time, transports us with her “Six Pièces Romantiques” to the elegant salons of Paris, where music was both a social occasion and an artistic delight. Moritz Moszkowski’s “Spanish Dances” then take the audience on a thrilling journey: fiery rhythms and a hint of castanets bring the sounds of Spain to life. Emmanuel Chabrier brings a smile to listeners’ faces with his “Cortège burlesque”—a musical carnival procession full of twists and comical moments. The grand finale is Ernst von Dohnányi’s “Waltz, Op. 3,” which evokes the great Viennese dance tradition with spirited elegance.
The crypt maintains a pleasant temperature year‐round.
