Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía: Harmonia del Parnàs and Bruno de Sá open a radiant window onto Spanish and Italian Baroque music.
Valencian ensemble Harmonia del Parnàs, led by Marian Rosa Montagut, presents a singular event: internationally acclaimed Brazilian soprano Bruno de Sá performing, for the first time, a programme dedicated to Spanish Baroque music. Its theme is love according to José de Nebra (1702–1768), one of the 18th century’s finest composers, organist of the Royal Chapel and the Descalzas Reales, whose music reached Guatemala and Mexico, preserving works now lost in Spain. In the concert’s first half, Bruno de Sá performs female roles in their original tessitura. He then gives voice—for the first time in modern times—to male characters originally written for soprano, roles sung during Farinelli’s era by the great castrati.
