Discover the musical brilliance of OCV and Vasily Petrenko at Valencia’s remarkable Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, a cultural landmark in the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences.

Vasily Petrenko works closely with Europe’s leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic and Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, and is Chief Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He began his collaboration with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana with a superb performance of Rachmaninov’s Symphony No. 2. Now he traces a journey from the balanced elegance of Mozart’s immensely popular Symphony No. 40 to Strauss’s symphonic poem Don Quixote, with its dense orchestration, broad palette of timbres and rich motivic development. The Knight of the Sorrowful Countenance emerges through symphonic variations, while the cello embodies the adventurous protagonist in a virtuosic display that raises this late Romantic score to the level of a great solo concerto. Les Arts once again welcomes cellist Pablo Ferrández, who achieved overwhelming success last season with Elgar’s Cello Concerto.

Conductor:	Vasily Petrenko Born in St Petersburg in 1976, Vasily Petrenko is recognised as one of the exceptional musicians of his generation. Petrenko was still in his teens when he became resident conductor at St Petersburg Opera and Ballet Theatre, and has gone on to work with some of the world’s finest orchestras, earning international acclaim – and top prizes – for his inspirational performances. His Liverpool debut with the Phil in November 2004, and subsequent appearances in October and December 2005, created huge excitement: “…memorable for the sheer electricity emanating from the podium.
