At Valencia’s Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, music lovers can savour an evening of grandeur as OCV and Philippe Jordan pair one of Mahler’s most powerful symphonies with one of the city’s most striking cultural landmarks.
Les Arts welcomes Philippe Jordan, one of today’s most distinguished conductors. Music Director of the Vienna State Opera for five seasons, he will lead the Orchestre National de France from 2027. He previously directed the Paris Opera and Vienna Symphony Orchestra. His debut with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana marks his first concert with a Spanish orchestra. The acclaimed Swiss maestro has chosen Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony, an apt programme celebrating the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana’s 40th anniversary. The score reveals the religious and metaphysical dimensions of Mahler’s music, alongside his deepest emotions. Its final movement stands among symphonic‐vocal music’s greatest achievements: a sonic journey through human existence, the Last Judgement, Resurrection — “Rise again!” sings the distant chorus in pianissimo — and hope for Eternity, culminating in the orchestral and choral climax of the apotheotic “I shall die in order to live.”
