Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre visits Estonian National Opera: Coppélia
Tallinn, Estonian National Opera
About the Event
Léo Delibes’s “Coppélia” is one of the most beloved ballets in Lithuania, as its premiere on December 4, 1925, marked the beginning of the professional ballet troupe in the country.
For this reason, the Lithuanian National Ballet will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lithuanian ballet during the 2025/2026 season!
All popular stage works inspire unique visions from choreographers—and “Coppélia” is no exception, having been staged by many diverse ballet masters. Some interpretations draw closer to Hoffmann’s “The Sandman”, others turn comedy into tragedy… In any case, “Coppélia” remains one of the most frequently performed ballets in the world. This three‐act story is full of magic, comic confusion caused by mistaken identity, lively romance, and visually stunning stagecraft – captivating audiences for over 140 years.
To mark the 100th anniversary of Lithuanian ballet, “Coppélia” returns to the stage of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in a new production by one of today’s most renowned Lithuanian choreographers, Martynas Rimeikis.
