Estonian National Opera Ballet: La Fille mal Gardée
Tallinn, Estonian National Opera — Theatre Hall
About the Event
In 2026, the Estonian National Opera will host this comic ballet in two acts. A classic in the ballet repertoire, 'La fille mal gardée' first appeared in 1789 in Bordeaux, France, maintaining its popularity ever since. Marc Ribaud's vibrant 1950s South of France adaptation is stylish, funny, and tender, bringing joy and cheer.
The plot centers on Lise, a spirited country girl, who falls for Colas, a charming farmhand, much to the dismay of her controlling mother, the widow Simone. Simone has other marital plans for Lise, involving Alain, the clumsy son of wealthy vineyard owner Thomas. What ensues is a series of playful events freeing Lise from Alain’s awkward advances and Simone’s control, ultimately leading her to her beloved Colas.
Packed with an engaging narrative, delightful humor, and heartfelt emotion, Marc Ribaud’s rendition remains a cherished choice for family audiences.
