About the Event

Discover the breathtaking architecture of Sydney’s iconic Opera House and enter the world of opera with an unforgettable concert. Mozart’s enchanting The Magic Flute sweeps you into a fabulous adventure, as a noble hero and his lovable companion race to save a princess in mortal danger. Surprises appear at every turn, while the Queen of the Night brings intrigue to the tale.

Embark on a surprising journey through a surreal, spectacular world in this new staging of Mozart’s most inventive opera.

Brimming with humour and heart, The Magic Flute follows Prince Tamino’s daring mission to rescue Pamina — and the perilous trials the young pair endure as they seek their way back to the light.

With fabulously fun sets and costumes inspired by Jules Verne and HG Wells, this is a feast for both eyes and ears, featuring some of Mozart’s best‐known music, including the extraordinary high notes of the Queen of the Night aria.

Sir Thomas Allen is an operatic legend who has brought Mozart’s operas to life for over half a century — first as a baritone, now as a director. His staging of The Magic Flute sparkles with whimsy, wit and wonder, delighting audiences across the UK.

Earning five‐star reviews, this production was hailed as “one of the most entertaining and ingenious productions of Mozart’s final stage work” (The Times) and “the whole thing is a triumph” (The Herald).

Featuring an exciting blend of international talent and a new generation of Australian stars, this fresh take on The Magic Flute promises a wonderful night at the opera.

Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House hosts performances from many genres in Sydney, Australia. One of the 20th Century's most famous and distinctive structures, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Opera House was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon as a multiple performance venue. The complex hosts more than 1.2 million people annually with a season of 1,500 performances. Performers include international and local guest artists, and three resident companies: the Sydney Theatre Company, Opera Australia, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Perhaps the most important composer of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian composer of the late 18th century. Born in 1756 in Salzburg, he showed prodigious musical talent from childhood. Beginning at five years of age, he composed more than 600 works, including concertos, symphonies, religious works and operas before his premature death at the age of 35. Hi influence over successive generations cannot be overestated - Ludwig van Beethoven wrote of Mozart "posterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years”. Despite the immense success of his compositions, and the acclaim he received across Europe, Mozart achieved little financial security and rwas buried in an unmarked grave in Vienna's St Marx Cemetery.
