About the Event
Discover an unforgettable evening at the iconic Sydney Opera House with The Drover’s Wife.
Some may say a story ended, but for those who understand, a story is eternal our Dreaming is forever.
Molly Johnson, heavily pregnant, is a resilient survivor left to care for her children alone in a remote Snowy Mountains shanty.
Surrounded by snakes, bullocks, and unfriendly travelers, she confronts numerous threats. Her husband is away droving sheep, leaving her to face them by herself.
Yadaka, an Aboriginal man fleeing colonial authorities, disrupts Molly’s solitude, unearthing their shared history of hardship.
The Drover’s Wife, a monumental new opera, is based on the works of Leah Purcell, with a captivating score by George Palmer, showcasing its most expansive narrative yet.
The opera features soaring melodies and rich orchestrations that reflect the beauty and brutality of the Australian High Country. Combining grand opera traditions with contemporary Aboriginal storytelling, it stars Australia's newest opera sensation, Nina Korbe, in a breathtaking performance as the drover's wife.
