Aida on Sydney Harbour
Sydney, Sydney Harbour — Open Air
About the Event
Opera’s historic epic, staged on the grandest scale – live on Sydney Harbour.
Aida is operatic spectacle at its most thrilling: love, war and grandeur unite in an experience centuries in the making.
An 18‐metre, 15‐tonne rotating bust of Nefertiti towers over the stage. 130 performers and musicians bring Ancient Egypt vividly to life. Fireworks illuminate the sky at every performance.
Aida is the biggest opera ever mounted on Sydney Harbour. Verdi places an intimate forbidden love story against the fate of empires, as kingdoms rise and fall and history marches relentlessly on.
Few stages match Sydney Harbour for a production of this scale: city lights sparkle as the Sydney Opera House is silhouetted against the setting sun. With pop‐up bars and dining, this remains one of the city’s most treasured events.
Yet amid the spectacle lies an emotional heart. Long after the fireworks fade and Amneris sings her quiet concluding prayer, you’ll recognise the opera’s true mastery: at once a historic epic and a profoundly moving human tragedy.
