Young Euro Classic 2023: National Youth Orchestra of Romania
About the Event
In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Franz Schubert, Francis Poulenc and Alin Chelărescu at Berlin's treasured and world‐renowned Konzerthaus Berlin.
Romania can look back on a long tradition in the field of classical music. Even after the political upheaval, operas, concerts, radio productions and classical music festivals have remained an integral part of cultural life. The National Youth Orchestra of Romania also benefits from this rich musical heritage. The orchestra was founded in 2008 and has reached an outstanding level under the direction of its principal conductor, Cristian Mandeal, a student of Karajan. The Young Euro Classic audience has already had the opportunity to witness this on several occasions.
This year, the Romanian orchestra is taking on a special musical challenge: the magnificent C major symphony by Franz Schubert, which fascinates with its rich palette of musical colors and moods. This impressive work is joined by a Romanian pianist duo interpreting Francis Poulenc's airy Double Concerto from 1932, which recalls the grace of Mozart.
As usual, the Romanian orchestra also brings a composition from their homeland: This time they present the young work 'Panicandemica' by Alin Chelărescu from 2021, a composition that promises fresh sounds and shows the creative diversity of the Romanian music scene.
The National Youth Orchestra of Romania will once again demonstrate its exceptional musical virtuosity and delight the Young Euro Classic audience with a fascinating performance. Under the sensitive direction of Cristian Mandeal, the Romanian musicians will take the audience on a rousing journey full of emotion and sonic sophistication.
