Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra at Philharmonie Berlin
About the Event
Yuja Wang is celebrated for her charismatic artistry, technical brilliance, and captivating stage presence. The pianist made her international breakthrough in 2007 when she stepped in for Martha Argerich as soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Since then, Yuja has become known not only for her virtuosity on the black and white keys, but also for her spontaneous and lively performances. She told the New York Times: “I firmly believe that every program should have a life of its own and be a representation of how I feel at that moment.” And right now, that seems to be powerful, sensual, and a little exotic.
The internationally acclaimed pianist and Grammy winner is coming to Berlin with Ravel's piano concerto “For the Left Hand.” The single‐movement work, commissioned by Paul Wittgenstein in 1929, is characterized by imposing sounds and jazz elements.
Einojuhani Rautavaara's neo‐Romantic concerto also promises to be a thrilling sound experience in Wang's hands. At her side: the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Esa‐Pekka Salonen. The Finnish conductor, renowned worldwide for his analytical clarity and creative depth, will also perform Sibelius' last symphony and Debussy's impressionistic masterpiece “La Mer” with the orchestra.
