Star Roof Experience: La Traviata | Arena di Verona
About the Event
Combine your opera experience with the exclusive Star Roof Expierence.
The Star Roof Experience takes place on the terrace of the stars, a hidden gem known by few, including the locals of Verona themselves. This unique setting is situated between the first ring of the Arena and the surviving wing, which has stood as a symbol of the amphitheater since the 1117 earthquake. From this vantage point, you will be treated to a breathtaking view of Piazza Bra and its historic Liston, perpetually bustling with visitors.
In this enchanting location, before the opera commences, only 24 guests will have the privilege of indulging in a stellar dining experience. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with a welcome glass, followed by a sumptuous four‐course dinner meticulously crafted by Mattia Bianchi, the Executive Chef of the Michelin‐starred Amistà Restaurant. Chef Bianchi's culinary creations showcase seasonal and regional ingredients, showcasing his passion for cooking and the heritage of Verona. Each course will be perfectly complemented by a curated selection of Sartori Wines.
Chef Bianchi shared his enthusiasm, stating, 'Cooking in the Arena is a matter of pride for me, not only because Verona is my hometown, but also because these 'experiences' within the amphitheater will be among the most prestigious events of the 2023 Arena season, especially in this centennial year. The menus I have designed for these dinners are a reflection of my professional journey and my dedication to the region and the seasonality of ingredients. This philosophy is strongly supported by the Facchini Family, owners of the 5‐star Luxury Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà, where Amistà Restaurant is located.'
Once the dinner concludes, you will be escorted to the coveted front‐row seats to savor the opera performance. During the intermission, you will have exclusive access to a designated area where a personalized courtesy service awaits you. We are thrilled to inform you that this exceptional offering has already sold out for 30 evenings, solidifying its status as an incredibly sought‐after experience.
La Traviata
The legendary director Franco Zeffirelli staged lights and shadows of the heroine Violetta Valéry.
Two long‐cherished loves that finally come together: La Traviata and the Arena of Verona. La Traviata was certainly one of Zeffirelli's most staged operas in his long career as a director, stage and costume designer. In 1958 he staged the work in Dallas with Maria Callas and, as a young aspiring director, measured himself against his artistic role model Visconti. His close relations with Verona are also well known, but especially with the Arena, in which he had created unforgettable opera productions of immense vastness — and in this year's opera season finally brings the eagerly awaited Traviata to the stage. This production really became the climax of his ongoing, expert interpretation of the text, which has accompanied the artist throughout his life.
In other words, a new Traviata that at the same time becomes a chronicle of a long chain of ideas, images, nuances of colour and suggestions that have settled in the eyes and hearts of opera fans from all over the world, as if it were an encyclopedia of the stylistic ideas of Zeffirelli around the beloved subject. This Traviata in the Arena could thus be described as the very last summary of a Wagnerian leitmotif that was eternally suspended and will now be completed in June 2019.
Franco Zeffirelli was an expert in dealing with the arena's difficult and tricky stage, whose traps and pitfalls he knew very well, with its immense space and the huge masses of performers that move on it, but he also knew how to make the most of the possibilities offered by this prestigious and impressive space.
