About the Event

An engaging Tchaikovsky program offered by the Toulouse group and their appealing chief conductor, Tugan Sokhiev: among the master’s symphonies, the maestro has chosen the Sixth this time—the tormented “Pathétique”.

Complementary facets of Tchaikovsky’s genius will be shown through his Rococo Variations, performed by the talented Narek Hakhnazaryan (a protégé of Rostropovich who won the 2011 Tchaikovsky competition). For a stylistic contrast, Sokhiev offers Shostakovich’s Suite, extracted from his opera Katerina Ismailova (Lady Macbeth) and including that work’s most seductive and powerful orchestral interludes.
