Sirba Orchestra! im Wiener Musikverein

About the Event

A creative fusion of classical tradition and the traditions of Eastern European folk music: this was violinist Richard Schmoucler's vision when he founded the Sirba Octet in 2003. Since then, members of the Orchestre de Paris and the Orchestre National de France, a pianist, and a cimbalom player, together with arranger Cyrille Lehn, have been redefining the living interaction between klezmer, Yiddish songs, and the music of the Sinti and Roma, with integrative forays into Romania, Moldova, Russia, and Hungary. The Plugged‐In audience was already able to experience this for themselves in 2017 with the program “Yiddish Rhapsody.” In collaboration with a balalaika, the Russian lute with its characteristic triangular sound box, and an entire orchestra, in this case of course with the Tonkünstler under the baton of their principal conductor Fabien Gabel, this collective celebration of classical world music entitled “Sirba Orchestra!” boils over in the most beautiful sense.
