Shakespeare Dances: Theater an der Wien

About the Event

For this special evening John Neumeier chose the highlights of his Shakespeare dances and merged them into one unique work.

To Neumeier Shakespeare's plays are the greatest source of inspiration for a choreographer. "He understood the essence of people and from that created such complex and strong characters and their relationships that it is easy for us today to understand them even without words," Neumeier claims.

For the 40th anniversary of the Hamburger Ballett Neumeier chose the highlights of his Shakespeare dances and merged them into a new and unqiue piece. At the center of the evening stands Neumeier's "Hamlet", framed by the comedies "As you like it" and "Vivalid or Twelfth Night". The character
Jacques from "As you like" is the re‐occuring element of this evening.
