About the Event
Experience the enchanting harmonies of classical masters Krystof Penderecki, Karol Maciej Szymanowski, and Grażyna Bacewicz at the esteemed Palais des Beaux‐Arts in Brussels, a venue celebrated globally for its cultural significance. Karol Szymanowski's 1926 Stabat Mater aligns him with illustrious composers like Palestrina, Orlando di Lasso, Rossini, Schubert, and Verdi, who have all adapted the ancient medieval text into music. Szymanowski contemporizes this lineage by employing a Polish version of the Latin text and integrating Polish folk tunes into the sacred composition. The work uniquely features three soloists who perform independently, symbolizing Mary's unshared grief, converging only in the final movement. This vocal gem is presented alongside Szymanowski's Fourth Symphony and two pieces from fellow Polish composers: Grażyna Bacewicz's 1930s Suita for string orchestra and Krzysztof Penderecki’s 2005 Ciaconne.
