About the Event

Jörg‐Peter Weigle has shaped the Berlin Philharmonic Choir artistically for over two decades. At the start of the 2025/26 season, the young choir conductor Florian Benfer from Sweden—the Mecca of choral music—took over and is delighted with his new role with one of Germany's most prestigious oratorio choirs: “Choral music moves us, and we move it! When we sing, we encounter the tremendous cultural heritage and tradition of several hundred years of music history. And this history needs to be nurtured – and passed on.”

At Christmas, Handel's “Messiah,” one of the most famous oratorios, will be performed together with the Handel Festival Orchestra Halle and renowned soloists. Created in a veritable creative frenzy, Handel needed just 24 days to write down his dramatic, hymnal, and at the same time transparent, inspired work, which is intended to promise people comfort, grace, and light.
