Osterfestspiele Baden‐Baden: Bartók und Beethoven: Berliner Philharmoniker, Jakub Hrůša, Seong‐Jin Cho

About the Event

“Béla Bartók's mother tongue was Beethoven”. This quote by composer György Kurtág leads directly to the heart of the Easter Festival evening under the direction of Jakub Hrůša. The focus is on Béla Bartók's monumental. “Concerto for Orchestra”, which the composer wrote in exile in America. Ludwig van Beethoven was also surrounded by the noise of war when he composed his last piano concerto. It bears the nickname “Emperor Concerto”, although it is not clear whether this nickname refers to the fleeing Archduke Rudolph or the Emperor Napoleon, who was marching into Vienna and from whom Beethoven had already turned his back. Pianist Seong‐Jin Cho enjoys pop star status in his native South Korea.
