New Year's Eve Concert 2025: Haydn and Mozart at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
Concerto Brandenburg celebrates the end of the year with works by two musical companions.
At the turn of the year 2025, Concerto Brandenburg invites you to a New Year's Eve concert at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The program features important works by Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose personal and artistic connection is reflected in the selection of compositions.
Under the baton of Christian Friedrich Dallmann, two symphonies from 1772 open the program: Mozart's Symphony in A major, composed at the age of only 16, is characterized by youthful freshness and Italian influence. Haydn's Symphony No. 46 in B major, on the other hand, with its expressive turns of phrase and original dramaturgy, shows the full range of his mature work as Kapellmeister at the Esterházy court.
Haydn's Piano Concerto No. 11 in D major provides a glittering finale – the best known of his piano concertos and a work full of charm, virtuosity, and melodic sophistication. Following Mozart's works from the same period, Haydn wrote this concerto for the then newly developed fortepiano, which will be authentically showcased in the concert with Sebastian Heindl as soloist on a historical instrument. Sebastian Heindl, organist and church musician at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church since 2023, is a multi‐award‐winning keyboard virtuoso. He combines technical brilliance with a keen sense of historical performance practice – the best prerequisites for a musically and emotionally moving end to the year.
In the 2023/2024 season, Sebastian Heindl was nominated as a “Rising Star” – an initiative of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO), in which the continent's major concert halls have joined forces to shape the future of the music world.
Since 1995, they have been selecting the best young artists every year to send them on tour across Europe.
