Mahler: Resurrection Symphony at Festspielhaus Baden‐Baden

About the Event

It is the most popular of all Mahler symphonies: the “Second”. The American entrepreneur Gilbert Kaplan, who died in 2016, was so fascinated by the work that he learned to conduct in order to devote himself almost exclusively to this symphony. Leonard Bernstein's mental and physical exhaustion during the final chorus has made film history — in other words, this symphony has changed many a life. “Man lies in greatest need”, sings the alto solo, before the choir announces the resurrection: ”With wings that I have gained, I will float away! I will die in order to live!”
