Luisa Miller: Teatro Real
About the Event
Meet the forebear of Verdi's greatest heroines — Gilda, Violetta, Amelia, and Desdemona all have their progenitrix in Luisa Miller.
James Conlon conducts a concert performance of a work that examines the arbitrariness of all kinds of power, as it affects individual destinies. Verdi rejects old musical conventions, adopting an increasingly realistic musical style, subordinate to the demands of the plot, which itself sees the emergence of the Verdian signature themes of betrayal, the power of social pressure, remorse and the heroine's sacrifice.
