Le nozze di Figaro: Komische Oper Berlin
About the Event
Experience opera like never before in this astonishing performance of Mozart's masterwork at Berlin's remarkable Komische Oper Berlin.
This is truly not how Figaro and Susanna imagined the night before their wedding: Not only is their new bedchamber right next to the rooms of their employer Count Almaviva — Susanna even fears that Almaviva might claim the right of the first night 'through the back door'. But these are not the only love worries in the Almaviva house: old Bartolo wants to take revenge on Figaro because he once screwed up his marriage to the current Countess the page Cherubino is threatened with expulsion because he was caught by the Count with his new flame Barbarina and last but not least, the neglected Countess Rosina is spinning her own plans to bring her supposedly love‐struck husband back into line.
Lovers in closets, jumping into flowerbeds, nocturnal trysts: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed a masterpiece with all the ingredients of a perfect romantic comedy based on the text by his own poet Lorenzo Da Ponte. Rapid in tempo, multi‐layered in its emotionality and full of playful esprit, Mozart seduces us into the fates of his protagonists' hearts and thus shows us the most diverse varieties of love. Le nozze di Figaro, the most influential of all musical comedies, shines in a new, contemporary splendor in director Kirill Serebrennikov's refined reading.
