Il Trittico: Teatro dell'Opera di Roma
About the Event
Wonder at Puccini's powers of invention as his three one‐act operas range from jealous murder, to broad comedy, to heart‐rending tragedy. The innovative, and often controversial, Damiano Michieletto directs a star‐studded cast in the great verismo triptych.
Celebrated soprano Patricia Racette sings both the jaded Giorgetta of Il tabarro and the heartbroken Suor Angelica, whose disapproving aunt will be sung by Violeta Urmana — a pairing that promises a fiery confrontation scene.
Puccini's three operas delve deep into humanity's least‐admirable qualities, but never without acknowledging the redemptive powers of love, and of music. Envy and greed are at their most venal in the farcical Gianni Schicchi, but the score also contains one of the most beloved arias of the operatic canon, Lauretta's O mio babbino caro.
Sung in Italian, with English and Italian surtitles.
