Handel's Orlando with Jean‐Christophe Spinosi | Budapest Spring Festival

About the Event

Ensemble Matheus brings Handel's opera about a doomed love‐triangle, insanity and magic to Budapest.

The Ensemble Matheus have been one of the best‐known names in classical music for over twenty years. Jean‐Christophe Spinosi founded the Matheus Quartet in 1991, which was soon expanded into a larger ensemble. A group of variable size, they play compositions from chamber pieces to symphonic works on historically accurate (Baroque, classical, Romantic and modern) instruments, maintaining a repertoire that extends from the 17th century to the present. They are keen to rescue from oblivion works even by such authors as Vivaldi, whose Orlando Furioso they recorded in 2005, to considerable critical and popular acclaim. Every year since 2007, they have presented a new opera production at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
