Handel's Messiah: Eglise Saint‐Roch

About the Event

Handel's Messiah is, of course, a universally famous Alleluia. But this sumptuous chorus is just one of the many treasures in a score that is rich in the most varied emotions. Throughout these two and a half hours divided into three tableaux, Handel sings the Nativitý as well as the Stations of the Cross and the Resurrection of the Saviour, moving from the most radiant joy to the most suffocating tragedy, in a score carried by a choir in glory. Above all, there is the absolute sinceritý of the composer and the extraordinary vitalitý that he breathes into this true passion that bears no name. Triumphantly premiered in 1742, Messiah would never again leave English and European musical life, transformed by Victorian England into colossal celebrations.
Who better to exalt this unique work than the legendary Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists? With exceptional soloists, these two legendary ensembles, under the obviously ideal direction of Christophe Rousset, will bring out the majesty of this cathedral of sound.

It was all good. the choir, the lead singers, the orchestra. We had a wonderful time. one thing that wasn't good, the chairs. These were so uncomfortable. especially when you have to seat for a long 3 hours

It was great to listen to the Messiah again and the choir was amazing. I really liked the interpretations in the minor pieces. However, this church is not very well suited for such a concert, there is a lot of noise that comes from outside.
