Gypsy Indian World Jazz Project: Budapest Spring Festival

About the Event

At the Palace of Arts, the Gypsy‐Indian World Jazz Project will give its concert as part of the Budapest Spring Festival.

Béla Szakcsi Lakatos is one of the greatest figures of Hungarian jazz, who is active in countless musical genres and has a passionate interest in classical music. In 2004 he set out to explore his own roots with Gypsy Jazz, creating a new style from the elements of Roman folk music and jazz. In a follow‐up to this programme, now the representatives of different nations and ethnicities make their contributions to a common production. In this meeting of the spirits, the soloists offer contemporary and Django jazz, Hungarian Gypsy and classic Indian music, and fuse it all through all‐pervading improvisation to create a world jazz in which everyone can keep their own style whilst reflecting on the performance of the others.
