Gürzenich‐Orchester Köln & Chamayou
About the Event
Experience an awaited concert filled with the soothing melodies of classical music by Maurice Ravel, Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky, and Aram Khachaturian in the iconic and globally acclaimed Palais des Beaux‐Arts in Brussels. Aram Khachaturian, of Armenian heritage, was born in Georgia before relocating to Russia. A contemporary of Shostakovich, Khachaturian was deeply rooted in the Soviet Union, flourishing nearly all his life as a distinguished Soviet composer. In 1942, he composed the eclectic ballet Gayaneh, showcasing Armenian themes through various moods, contrasting the intense Sabre Dance with the equally renowned gentle Adagio. Ravel, inspired by the Russian (musical) landscape, orchestrated Mussorgsky's piano composition Pictures at an Exhibition, wrapping it in quintessentially French orchestral textures. Notably, he included an alto saxophone, an instrument beyond Mussorgsky’s imagination. Under the baton of young maestro Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, the seasoned Gürzenich Orchester Köln masterfully navigates from one musical scene to the next.
