Golda Schultz & Jonathan Ware at Pierre Boulez Saal
About the Event
In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous voice of Golda Schultz at Berlin's treasured and world‐renowned Pierre Boulez Saal.
Scholarly song deals with universal themes such as love, longing, loneliness — but often, as in many other fields, primarily from a male perspective. The song cycle This Be Her Verse, commissioned by Golda Schultz from composer Kathleen Tagg and librettist Lila Palmer, provides a contemporary counterbalance to this situation. Together with Jonathan Ware, the South African soprano also performs works by important female composers from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Pierre Boulez Saal
The Pierre Boulez Hall is the hall of the Barenboim‐Said Academy. Designed by Frank O. Geary, the hall opened in March 2017 in Berlin, Germany. The hall was named in tribute to French conductor and composer Pierre Boulez, a name suggested by the Argentinian‐Israeli pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim. Despite being essentially a chamber venue, the structure has a cuboid shape that can accommodate medium‐sized orchestras, and up to 682 visitors. Architect and musicians alike seek to offer a 360 degree perspective on music, combining styles, cultures and viewpoints in the space.
Practical Information
Only vaccinated, recovered or tested persons (3G rule) will be admitted to events in the Pierre Boulez Saal. FFP2 masks are mandatory in the building at all times and must also be kept on once you are seated.
