Gala Concert 20 Years EU Accession of Slovakia Mozart, Händel, Schubert, Bach & more

About the Event

Listen to works by Mozart, Handel, Schubert, Bach and more at the gala concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of Slovakia's accession to the EU at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.

To mark the 20th anniversary of Slovakia's accession to the EU, the Slovak Institute invites you to a festive gala concert at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. Under the direction of the renowned conductor Peter Valentovič, the Slovak Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, the Bratislava Boys' Choir, and celebrated soloists Adriana Kučerová (soprano) and Pavol Breslik (tenor) will present a diverse program that reflects the musical diversity of Europe. Together, they create the setting for a gala concert that celebrates the European spirit and Slovakia's cultural ties.

The evening's highlights include Handel's rousing “Rejoice” from “Messiah,” Malotte's moving “Lords Prayer” and Schubert's “Mille cherubini in coro,” followed by Caccini's touching “Ave Maria” and Bach's “Air.” The musical journey continues with parts of Mozart's C minor Mass, followed by Franck's “Panis Angelicus” and Gounod's “Ave verum corpus.” Barber's moving “Adagio for Strings” will create a poignant atmosphere before the concert comes to a worthy conclusion with, among other pieces, Bizet's “Agnus Dei.”

The concert is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Slovakia's cultural contribution to the European Union and to emphasize the country's connection to Europe's rich musical tradition. Don't miss this musical highlight and celebrate Europe's diversity and cultural richness with Slovakia.
