El Arte del piano Cubano | Sunday Sounds
About the Event
MEAM welcomes you to a series of exclusive “unplugged” concerts as part of the Sunday Sounds series, with a variety of musical genres, from indie to flamenco fusion, from tango to pop. Immerse yourself in a unique sound journey, where, as is customary at MEAM, music is interwoven with art and history.
Pianist Dayramir began his professional career as a pianist and composer at the age of 16 with the Afro‐Cuban jazz group Diákara, led by former Irakere member Oscar Valdés. He received top honors at Havana's JoJazz festival in 2004 and 2005 and three Cubadisco awards for his 2007 debut album “Dayramir & Habana enTRANCé” before entering Berklee College of Music as the first Cuban to receive its “Presidential Scholarship”.
Since completing his education, he has performed in stadiums with a capacity for 15,000 people with the legends Chucho and Bebo Valdés and has headlined at Carnegie Hall, as a representative of the young generation of Afro‐Cuban jazz. In recent years, with multiple albums recorded under his belt, Dayramir has developed an international following in clubs, concert halls and festival performances throughout North and South America, as well as in Europe. Dayramir, an American citizen, still performs annually in Cuba at the legendary Jazz Plaza Festival in Havana, while staying close to his cultural and creative roots.
