Edita Gruberova: Donizetti's Anna Bolena

About the Event

Enjoy this key work of the great bel canto repertoire with Edita Gruberova in the title role: Gaetano Donizetti's Anna Bolena.

Anna Bolena tells of Anne Boleyn, the second of six wives of Henry VIII in England in the year 1536 who was exectued on charges of adultery and treason. From this fateful story the young Italian composer, Gaetano Donizetti, wrote a magnificent and romantic bel canto drama to music of compelling beauty 300 years later.

Anna Bolena is one of the most important operas of bel canto repertoire. Edita Gruberova embodies the virtuoso title role with congeniality and brilliance. Gruberova is joined by renowned singers Sonia Ganassi, José Bros and the Munich Opera Orchestra and Opera Choir in this concert version performance of the opera Anna Bolena.
