Dvorak / Martinu / Schumann / Meister: Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano
About the Event
Europe and America. This program unites Martinů and Dvořák, two composers who, despite circumstances, became global citizens as they departed their homeland, now known as the Czech Republic. The program begins with Dvořák's Carnival Overture. In the late 19th century, he journeyed across the Atlantic to lead the New York Conservatory. Martinů's rare and demanding Rhapsody‐Concerto for Viola and Orchestra also features in the lineup, reflecting his forced departure from Europe during World War II's dark period. This intricate program culminates with Schumann's Rheinische Symphony under the baton of Cornelius Meister, Stuttgart State Opera's General Music Director since 2018, showcasing Sarah McElravy on viola, a versatile artist skilled as both a violinist and violist.
