Dresdner Musikfestspiele: organ recital Thomas Ospital

About the Event

An inspiring organ recital by Thomas Ospital featuring works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Couperin. To coax sounds out of the organ, not only virtuosity but also full physical commitment is required: the pedals are operated with the feet while playing the keys. Thomas Ospital, who comes from the French Basque Country, has mastered this art like no other. Born in 1990, he has been the titular organist of the great organ of Saint‐Eustache in Paris since 2015. He calls the artists who play his instrument the adventurers of the industry, because they have to constantly adapt to new instruments and new spaces – and usually with little time. For Ospital, the constant encounter with unfamiliar terrain does not allow for routine, but rather opens up the opportunity to constantly reinvent himself and develop his playing. For his concert on the legendary Silbermann organ in Freiberg, the Frenchman combines two masters of their craft with works by Johann Sebastian Bach and François Couperin, thus also creating an appealing musical bridge between his home country and the German musical tradition.
