Dresdner Musikfestspiele: Cho — Göteborgs Symfoniker — Rouvali
About the Event
A grand orchestral event starring Seong‐Jin Cho alongside the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Santtu‐Matias Rouvali.
Seong‐Jin Cho previously captivated the festival‐goers with his solo piano recital at the Palais im Großen Garten last season. This year, he returns to Dresden, not just with a solo performance, but accompanied by an orchestra, showcasing one of the masterpieces of piano repertoire: Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor. The piece, a reflection of Chopin’s early romantic infatuations, notably with Konstancja Gładkowska, explores the expansive expressive capacities of the piano, setting new benchmarks of musical and emotional depth. The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, which has held the honor of being Sweden's National Orchestra since 1997, offers a sumptuous backdrop of sound. The performance also marks another special occasion—the return of the Finnish maestro Santtu‐Matias Rouvali, who won acclaim in Dresden in 2024 and now serves as the principal conductor for the Orchestra. Under his baton, attendees will experience Tchaikovsky’s profound final masterpiece, the “Pathétique,” a piece Tchaikovsky himself described as containing his “whole soul.”
