Czech National Symphony Orchestra: Wagner & Strauss

About the Event

Steven Mercurio conducts the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in a romantic program of works by Wagner and Richard Strauss in the prestigious Smetana Hall in Prague.

Although Antonín Dvořák and César Franck came from different cultural backgrounds and expressed themselves through distinct musical languages, their work is united by deep emotionality, rich harmony, and striking melodic beauty. Both are among the leading figures of the late Romantic era. The Second Subscription Concert features two iconic works of this period: Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor, which is considered one of the masterpieces of the cello repertoire, and Franck’s Symphony in D minor. This symphony is the only symphony Franck ever composed during his career and it had a profound influence on subsequent generations of French composers.
