Chinese Composers Series: Qu Wei in Memoriam
About the Event
At this concert, works by the Chinese composer Qu Wei will be performed by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Xieyang Chen.
Qu Wei (1917‐2002) was one of the earliest Chinese composers for Western instrumentation. He believed that it was the duty of Chinese composers to write symphonic music with distinctive Chinese air, and he himself composed accordingly, leaving behind a rich legacy of Chinese orchestral classics including all the works in this programme.
