Honor the late virtuoso with Mischa Maisky, David Geringas, and Ian Fountain, as they play Bach's seminal cello works, and pieces inspired by the great master.
Bach is widely credited with putting the cello 'on the map' as a solo instrument, and his unaccompanied suites for the instrument are extraordinary in their contrapuntal complexity. The 'Goldberg Variations' are among the most celebrated works in the classical canon, and have served as inspiration for composers from Busoni and Corigliano to Schickele, Lieberson, Christopher Rouse and Kenneth Frazelle.
