Carmina Burana at Arena di Verona Opera Festival 2026
About the Event
The impassioned notes of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana are set to illuminate the Arena di Verona once more. This must‐see lyrical/symphonic event showcases the Arena Orchestra and Chorus at their finest.
Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff between 1935 and 1936, drawing from 24 poems in the medieval Carmina Burana collection. Its complete Latin title, Carmina Burana: Cantiones profanæ cantoribus et choris cantandæ comitantibus instrumentis atque imaginibus magicis (Songs of Beuern: Secular songs for singers and choruses with instruments and magical images), highlights its grandeur. Part of the Trionfi triptych, it includes Catulli Carmina and Trionfo di Afrodite. The opening and closing movements, 'Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi' (Fortune, Empress of the World), famously begin with 'O Fortuna'.
