Bruckner & Boulez at Festspielhaus Baden‐Baden
About the Event
Pierre Boulez's strict “edge of the hand” conducting style was famous. What seemed slightly awkward to the audience, however, helped the instrumentalists a great deal: “He conveyed the structure of each piece of music to us very precisely, said Emmanuel Pahud, principal flute of the Berlin Philharmonic. When Boulez was able to choose his repertoire with the Vienna Philharmonic, he chose Bruckner's austere Romantic monuments. Boulez' composition “Cummings is the Poet” refers to a poem by the American E. E. Cummings. He breaks up sentences and words and arranges them on the pages of the book in such a way as to create surprising interactions.
