Pianist and musicologist Ralph van Raat has been fascinated by contemporary classical music since he was a teenager. Consequently, he devotes most of his time to the music of today — although his repertoire is broad. Well‐known composers, including Tan Dun, David Lang and Gavin Bryars, dedicated music to him. The pianist also worked intensively with Arvo Pärt, György Kurtág, John Adams and Louis Andriessen, among others. Van Raat released a large number of internationally successful CDs on various labels, many of which were domestic and foreign bestsellers. Since 2006, he has had a recording contract with Naxos International.
In addition to his many recitals and chamber music performances, he has been invited as a soloist by international companies and symphony orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. In addition to his concert practice, he teaches contemporary piano music at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and at the postgraduate program of the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo.
