Top French talent Nathalia Milstein begins this evening with works from her homeland. Starting with several keyboard works by Rameau, whose groundbreaking essays underlie today's music theory and piano technique. Fauré's Thème et variations with its surprising ending is considered one of his best pieces for solo piano. With the colorful sounds of Debussy's beloved Images and his homage to Rameau, we come full circle and head dreamily into intermission. After the break, sit back and relax, because the complete Études‐Tableaux op. 39 by Rachmaninov the notes will be flying around your ears. Rachmaninov built on the tradition concertetudes of Chopin and Liszt with his self‐devised term, and the works are an impressive touchstone for any pianist.
