Bologna Festival: Chamber Orchestra of Europe & Simon Rattle

About the Event

From their first electrifying encounter in 2020, it was clear that the paths of Sir Simon Rattle and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe would cross again. Linking their trajectories is Claudio Abbado, mentor in the early years of one of today’s most refined ensembles and Rattle’s predecessor at the helm of the Berliner Philharmoniker. That musical DNA does not lie: only an orchestra of supreme technical mastery and a conductor of voracious vitality could conceive a programme that brings together the mathematical precision of Bartók with the synthesis of classical rigour and searing expressiveness that defines Brahms’s Fourth Symphony, passing through the unresolved metaphysical tensions of Busoni.

PROGRAMME
Béla Bartók: Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta
Ferruccio Busoni: Sarabande from Two Studies for Doktor Faust, Op.51
Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98
