Andreas Brantelid: Solo Cello Recital at Mogens Dahl Koncertsal
About the Event
Solo cello recital by acclaimed cellist Andreas Brantelid, performing three of Bach's most iconic cello suites.
It will be a remarkable evening when one of Scandinavia’s most praised and in‐demand cellists, Andreas Brantelid, performs three of the most famous works in the solo cello repertoire. Few composers in music history have been as prolific, innovative, and versatile as Johann Sebastian Bach. His vast body of work is characterized by a consistently high level of quality, with moments of complexity and musical expressiveness that have rarely been surpassed. The six suites for solo cello (of which Brantelid plays three) are not only milestones in the repertoire but also present an ongoing challenge for any ambitious cellist due to Bach's exploration of the instrument's possibilities. A Baroque suite typically consists of a series of dance movements, with Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, and Gigue being the most common, often preceded by a Prelude (overture) and, in Bach's case, additionally featuring a Minuet, Bourrée, or Gavotte before the final Gigue. Andreas Brantelid has received critical acclaim from critics worldwide and is also a highly active chamber musician, having played with artists such as Gidon Kremer and Joshua Bell. He frequently tours with Norwegian pianist Christian Ihle Hadland and Austrian violinist Benjamin Schmid. Although Brantelid has performed at Mogens Dahl Concert Hall several times, we are excited to welcome him for a solo program.
