Opera North brings Giles Havergale’s production of 'Albert Herring' to the Birgitta Festival. The cast features Dame Josephine Barstow as the formidable Lady Billows.

Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring (1947) is a clever social comedy with a masterful libretto by Eric Crozier. Bright characters people the small town of Loxford, where the irreproachable Albert Herring is elected 'May King'.
