For decades, our zarzuela suffered harsh criticism from a significant segment of opera enthusiasts. Regaining the respect it deserves required meticulous musicological research, productions of the highest theatrical and musical caliber, and, of course, the commitment of singers ideally suited to a genre of immense artistic value. Two of those voices are coming to the Teatro de la Maestranza to reconnect with their audience and renew their commitment to this repertoire.

With tenor José Bros and soprano Ainhoa Arteta, two regulars of our seasons are returning—two fan favorites whose recitals have always featured zarzuela music. Those who have had the opportunity to see them, together or separately, know of their rapport, their dedication on stage, and an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences—ideal for conveying a passion for our most distinctive genre anywhere in the world.
