Few orchestras can so thoroughly embody the traditions and history of a distinct national style, and Rome is privileged to host the St Petersburg Philharmonic on its world tour. Temirkanov leads his colleagues in Rimsky‐Korsakov's 1001 Nights‐inspired Shéhérazade, filled with the scents and sounds of the east, and in Rachmaninoff's incandescent Second Symphony.
