Oratorio Del Gonfalone: Strillenta voce — Songs of Passion in Ciociaria
Rome, Oratorio del Gonfalone — Main Hall
About the Event
Step into the enchanting world of timeless melodies and intricate harmonies at the Oratorio Del Gonfalone.
The ethnomusicological research undertaken by Mattia Dell’Uomo and Simone Frezza represents a cultural preservation effort of inestimable value, aimed at rescuing the Lenten heritage of Ciociaria and Alta Terra di Lavoro from oblivion through a rigorous recovery of oral traditions that began in 2015. This journey, fueled by direct engagement with local singers and confraternities, has made it possible to piece together a sonic mosaic in which the polyphonic narration of the Passion is inextricably intertwined with the archaic sounds of instruments such as the zampogna, the organetto, and the zugutufù, evoking the atmosphere of an agrarian‐pastoral rituality that once animated both liturgical services and the ancient forms of alms‐gathering practiced by the “Cantarelle.” Thanks to the collaboration with the historic brotherhoods of Fiuggi and Alatri, the I Trillanti project transcends mere documentation to become an immersive performative experience, where artistic reinterpretation—while respectful of the original timbres and vocal styles—breathes new life into a “musical village” in which song and collective memory continue to resonate as a living testament to a deep and inalienable regional identity.
