About the Event

Noel – Christmas Music from Rome, a fascinating musical journey into the heart of Roman Christmas traditions in one of the most iconic and sumptuous venues in the capital, a treasure trove of history, art, and timeless beauty.
Celebrate the spirit of Christmas with the luminous voices of the Romaeterna Cantores Female Choir, under the inspired direction of Mº Aurelio Porfiri, in the intimate and historic Sala del Trono of the Galleria Doria Pamphilj. Noel: Christmas Music from Rome presents a journey through the rich Roman sacred and choral tradition, spanning centuries from Gregorian Chant to contemporary compositions, all with a heartwarming Christmas theme.

The program opens with the serene purity of Gregorian Chant, featuring Salve Sancta Parens and Alleluia, Felix es, and continues with Renaissance treasures like Francisco Soto de Langa’s Nell’apparir del sempiterno sole and Ruggiero Giovannelli’s Iesu, sole serenior. Romantic and early twentieth‐century works by Gaetano Capocci, Lorenzo Perosi, and Armando Antonelli offer gentle lyricism and tender reflection.

The concert also includes 20th‐century masterpieces of Roman choral music, including Bonaventura Somma, Domenico Bartolucci, Giovanni Maria Catena, Alberico Vitalini, Valentino Miserachs, and concludes with contemporary works by Aurelio Porfiri, such as Nella notte bagnata di stelle, Dormi, non piangere, and Noel, evoking the wonder and serenity of the Christmas season.

Part of the concert proceeds will support the construction of a new church organ for Santa Maria in Cappella in Trastevere, making this an evening of music and meaningful giving.

Enjoy an enchanting Christmas celebration, where the timeless beauty of Roman choral music, the warmth of the festive season, and the generosity of the community come together in perfect harmony.
